SHORT HAND SYSTEM FOR AVID NOTE TAKERS

Through my many years of serious note taking, mainly pertaining to lectures in my schooling experiences, I have come to develop my own form of shorthand to keep up with the rapid pace the information was being given to me. Along with developing the system for speed, I incorporated memory techniques as well.
THE RULES:
RULE 1: The basic idea behind the system is to remove all vowels from the words over 3 letters long.
Example :
Full - We are going to drive home for Christmas this year.
Shrt- We are gng to drv hm for chrstms ths yr.

RULE 2: The above may look a little iffy so we back step a little if the word ends in a vowel we do not remove the last letter.
Full- We are going to drive home for Christmas this year.
Shrt- We are gng to drve hme for chrstmas ths yr.

RULE 3: Going forward again, we replace symbols for common words. You many find more of these that suit you than are listed here, also you shouldn’t feel like you have to use them all, use what you feel comfortable with.

To >2___are>R___at>@___be>B___with>w/___without>w/o
And>+or&___less>-___for>4___example>ex.___Number>#___up>^

Note: Since writing numbers instead of spelling them out is logically quick, but may confuse some of us with the to>2 and for>4 shortcuts, I have this solution: If you usually write your twos like in IMAGE A above, then write your TO shorthand in a different style, like in IMAGE B above, without the loop at the bottom, or in reverse if the second is how you usually write. Use the same theory for FOUR and FOR shorthand between whichever style you use normally between IMAGE C and IMAGE D, using the style you don’t usually use for the shorthand for FOR.

Examples using symbols
We are going to drive home for Christmas this year.
We R gng 2 drve hme 4 chrstms ths yr.
Or if you want to throw in another common symbol replacement here it could me
We R gng 2 drve hme 4 xmas ths yr. replacing Christmas > xmas
RULE 4: This rule to help remember these notes. Always write in all capital letters and only use the front side of page to take notes on, do not use the backs of pages to write notes. This rule is a technique I use that helps remember what what I write, and when I study my notes, also writing in black ink seems to help remember things.

final Example
WE R GNG 2 DRVE HME 4 XMAS THS YR

RULE 5: Use these guidelines in a way that suits you, you do not have to follow everything word for word, just make it your own. They are your notes, do what works best for you! I hope this system helps,… someone….
